Document the Mach3 settings, delete the Mach3 directory completely from your hard drive, reinstall Mach3.

Hi All,
After a long break, I finally got my cncfusion kit #4. Installed it on my X2 and now in the process of setting up my mach 3 to work with the cnc mill. I have done this before, problem is now I have forgotten all that I have learned.
After a couple of hours searching online, I managed to set my ports and pins config in Mach 3 accordingly. But still the stepper motor won't turn. The number on the mach 3 DRO is not moving either. I am definitely missing something here.
What else have I got to do to get the motor turning? Thanks in advance.

Running Drivertest.exe in Mach 3 folder sometimes fixes this. The driver didn't install correctly. Also running Original Driver.bat in Mach 3 folder may fix it.
Lastly, what Jeff suggested. It takes the longest.![]()

Hi,
Thanks for your prompt replies. I am installing on a new computer. So its a clean install. My old laptop is not working and it has the working mach3 for my driver.
I am installing the latest copy of mach 3 downloaded from the website.
I have set the ports and pins accordingly. My parallel port is enable (I think) and motor tuning is done. Mach 3 DRO won't move when I pressed the arrow keys. Neither would the stepper motor. Could this be a compatibility issue?
I am trying on my desktop and see if it works.
Any idea what is missing?
Alex
Make sure you can come out of Reset and there are no errors showing. Hit tab key for fly-out and check to make sure you are in CONT jog mode. If DRO's do not move MACH is not sending pulses. Either the jog mode setting is wrong, or you are in RESET mode. Even having pins setup wrong for outputs will not stop the DRO's.

That and not having a driver installed.
If you look on the diagnostics screen, if the driver didn't install correctly, it will say SIMULATE instead of giving a pulse frequency.

Do the motors lock up?
If so, see that you have the motors wired the right way.
it's almost always something simple.
Hi all,
Thanks for your replies. In the diagnostic windows, it says pulse frequency is '0'. No stepper is connected as I am at work, just checking my laptop mach 3 to see if I can fix it.
I think there is a problem with mach 3 on my laptop. the arrow keys won't work with it to jog the axes. Neither would the page up and down. On my desktop, it is working fine. I am using the same version of mach3 for both. Fresh install.
Any idea guys? Need to work on my laptop as this is going to be the pc for my machine.
Alex
Ok, Reinstall mach 3 on my laptop. Still from the word go, nothing works. I.e. when I press the arrow keys, DRO doesn't move. Different from my desktop. Clean install and the moment I rebooted and start mach 3, press the arrow keys and DRO starts moving. So I guess its my laptop and not the mach3.
Anyone has any idea why this is the case? I have a HP Compag NX5000. Worked like a charm on my Asus previously before it went out on me.
So frustrating.
Alex
Alex,
The Mach3 driver is not loading if the DRO is not working and the pulse frequency is 0.
Reinstall the software and do not uncheck the install driver.
Once the DRO is working and the pluse frequency is around 25000 then the next step would be to configure the ports, pins and estop.

Hi Jeff,
Thanks. That's good to hear. The install was done normally though. The driver loading is checked but still it won't work after reboot. I checked my desktop pc and it shows the pulse frequency as 20000. And the DRO works when I jog the axes. So I am stumped as to why it won't work for my laptop.
