Mach2 - test ocx program shows running at only 96 pulses/sec

Help!

My god I swear I have tried everything...I've reinstalled Mach2, I've tried Mach3, I've scanned for spyware, I've disabled as many uneccesary services as I could..Mach2 just does not want to move my motors at normal speed.

It used to work about a year ago..it's definitely a software problem cause KCam works fine (so it's not a hardware problem!).

The OCX tester program shows CPU speed 850 (correct) and APIC present, interrupt zero, but only shows pulses per second as 96 ! OMG this sux!

try disabling APIC, but it may make the PC unstable. I'd do a fesh instal of Windows. If that's not possible, go through the optimisation list at www.machsupport.com.Be careful and only do one thing at a time, or risk not being able to boot.

Ok I got it to work again after I set the computer hardware to "normal PC" using Device Manager as the optimization file talked about. It made me re-activate windows though which was a little heart racing

Also one other feature of XP with SP2 is DEP (Data Execution Prevention) and in the process I also disabled that completely before rebooting.

So in some ways I'm not sure if the DEP disable or the PC hardware switch fixed the problem, but the software is now working correctly.

It also depends on your proccessor, but a fresh install of windows is best then as Ger21 said the opt. file next.

Is it Windows fault that they have to support so many different types of hardware, which is the cause of these problems. Probably.

But, I remember the good old DOS days when in order to play games, you'd have to jump through hoops to get all your hardware drivers working in the allotted 640K. You can have a Joystick, but no sound. Sound, no Joystick.


As for Mach3, it's much less fussy about hardware than it used to be. It supposedly works great on the $299 Dells right out of the box. And a lot of people on the Yahoo support group are buying PC's from Fry's for $149-$199 that apparently work great. The catch is they come with Linux, so you'll need a cpy of XP. About $80 from New Egg. ($145 for Pro)

Joe, I'm pretty sure the processor has no effect on mach running or not, unles it's too slow.
