sometimes ill get 2 good passes and the router will go completely off course. sometimes i can get 2 hours into a milling and everything is going well, when suddenly, the router will decide to go off course. what is the cause of the runaway router? | when this happens have you tried going back to you home position and if you do does it do it? i had this once with mach3, it would be fine for hours, but as you say it would then go off on one. when it did this the DRO's was still spot on i.e i wasn't losing position. if i sent it back home it would go there. i could then restart the g-gode and it would re do the part fine. when this was happening i was using mach3 lockdown R3.043.022. i then changed to R3.043.035. its been fine ever since. i'm not saying this will defiantly solve your problems, but it worked for me. |

this most recent time, when i selected 'go to zero', my z and y were on point but my x was about 3 or 4 inches from where it should have been. i just optimized mach 3 with my computer according to machsupport because i was thinking there may have been an issue with the screensaver, this did not work for me. i then realized that i had an old wireless ethernet adapter installed on my pc. while it was innactive, i think it may have been searching for a signal which was interrupting the pulse to the motors. i removed the card from the computer and reoptimized...this time setting the computer to Standard PC and NOT ACPI PC. this seems to have worked for now but the way things have gone, i'm sure i'll be in for a surprise a couple hours into my next carve. i am currently using Version R3.043.022... |

| ACPI can cause rough running and lost steps, but not running off where it's not supposed to go. Personally, I don't trust 3.43.022, and prefer either the development version or the older lockdown, 3.42.040

thats exactly the feeling i have. it gives me anxiety to sit there and have to babysit the machine wondering if something is gonna go awry. i'm feeling defeated to be quite honest. i will try the development version out. |

Are the step pulses wide enough? Read the spec on your drivers. The settings are config/motor tuning. Probably safe to set them to 3. If the pulses are narrower than you driver requires, then some will probably be missed, and in all likelihood will be temperature dependent.
