Things to check

Did you run the driver test program? How did it look?

Are you trying to run other applications on the computer while running the MACH software?

Are you using Windows XP? If so, you may also want to look at the optimization text file. It lists settings for improving MACH performance and removing interfering processes. http://www.machsupport.com/downloads...timization.txt

I ran the driver test and it bounced between too fast and too slow.I am running it from a dell inspirond laptop.I have tried installing the xml file that came on the installation disk and it was no help.I bought the system thinking that it was going to be easy, but after this I don't know.

On a laptop, in the BIOS you need to disable the battery saving ACPI stuff so that Mach3 can use the (almost useless) interrupt.
You may do better to use a junk computer off the hard rubbish collection.
Read this excellent PDF (thanks Art) and it will help you understand the problems of running real-time applications with windows.

Also in XP, in the Device Manager, for Computer, update the driver from 'ACPI PC' to 'Standard PC', you can do this my choosing the install from a specific location, and manually choosing the driver to install.
