    Help with Taig/Mach3/Xylotex setup

    Hello,

I recently moved from TurboCNC to Mach3. TurboCNC worked great but I really wanted to have a Windows PC at my disposal and run CNC software as well.

Anyway, I have the software setup and I can jog the machine and run gcode files from it but my units seem to be off. What I mean by this is that if I set a ruler on my table and jog the x axis 1 inch along the ruler in Mach3 it is only showing ~.8" moved. In TurboCNC there was an option to set the threads per inch to correct this but I dont see an option in Mach3. Mach3 only seem to have a "motor turning" section. I am assuming that my setup here is wrong.

Can anyone provide a good setup procedure for a Taig mill or point me to where I may be going wrong?

    Thank you!
    -Phil

You need to change your steps per unit settings

[They are in the Configuration menu, under motor tuning for the axis you choose. If your units are inches, then the number of steps is 20 (the pitch of the screws) times 200 (the number of steps the motors take to make one revolution) times 8 (I believe the Xylotex system uses 8x microstepping) = 32000. Try that, and see if it helps. Remember to "save axis settings" or you'll have to do it all over again...]

You can also let Mach3 calibrate each axis for you. I believe its on the settings page on the lower left of the screen.
