    Orac Conversion

    Hi
This is my first post hopefully it will be successful. I've just bought an ORAC Lathe last couple of week for a good price.I have a table top cnc router that I've run it with Mach II and Gecko's drive boards. I like this program and my objectif is to convert this Lathe so I could run it with the same program. Is this possible and were should I start.
My background is machinist and cnc , I would need help with the electonic of this machine. This is some of the spec of the machine:
    Main drive motor........0.37 Kw 380-420 v 1.3A AC
    Stepper motor X........200 steps/rev DC 2.9 V 3.1A
    Stepper motor Z........200 steps/rev DC 2.9 V 3.1A
any help would be a start
    Thanks
    Maurice

If you had a router with Mach then the lathe is not much different in the converting process just minus one axis. You will probably need to buy two stepper drives and a breakout board and replace the spindle to run on lower voltage.
Any one of these boards will work:

Also have a used Mach3 or just Mach2?

    Hello,
This is my first post on this forum. I am a retired "shop" teacher (38 yrs) working as a machinist/cnc operator for the past 4 yrs. for a former student of mine. Maurice, I find myself in the same boat. Recently acquired an Orac lathe however i'm afraid I can't claim the "at a good price" part. I bought "as is" with the hope that things would be operational but of course it didn't turn out that way. Mechanically things are fine, spindle works, but only one axis is functional. I have purchased the Mach 3 license and hope to do the conversion you speak of. I would be interested in following your progress and experiences with this project if you are inclined to share them. I of course am happy to reciprocate. My progress is likely to be slow as I seem to have way too many irons in the fire as per usual.
