1/4 - 20 internal threads

i need to turn about 500 bushings with 1/4-20 internal threads. i'm running mach 3 turn and it have a setup for threading. however, i don't know if i can drive a tap with this as i can't seem to find single point turning tools small enough to make the thread.

Can the threads be tapped with the use of a tapping head?

Runner4404spd,

We use Micro 100 tooling for 1/4-20 ID threading.

I use a tapping head on my lathe tailstock quite often. It's not often that I turn threads as my lathe is not all that great in this arena. I prefer to tap when possible.

Scott,

how do you work the tapping head in the tailstock? i'm familiar with their use on a mill, but have never used one on a lathe. also i have this setup for cnc operation on my 9x20. i can mount the tapping head in my gang plate, just curious how it works in a blind hole?

Yes. They work on 304 SS, 303 SS, Titanium.

I will look up speeds for you tomorrow when I'm back at my work computer.
