    Default "Cut From Here" Issue

    Hey everyone.

For whatever reason my system likes to freeze up and go into emergency mode from time to time. Which then makes the program lose the line that it was on, and I have to guess where I was, or start all over again. typically I arrow through the lines and watch the highlighter flip through the cuts and go from there. Problem comes in here: When I select "Run from here" the spindle goes down to the cutting depth, then moves to where it will need to start that line, then turns the spindle on. Most of the time ending up in snapping my end mill and trashing the part.

Is this common? The only work around I have found is setting my Z a couple inches above where it should be, then letting it move, re-starting it again at the proper Z height. Really time consuming and frustrating.

    Any ideas?

Are you getting a pop up window for a preparation move?

Enable Safe Z and use the preparation move. It also gives you the option to start the spindle.

I do get a pop-up when I initiate this. I do not see a Safe Z option though. I get a box to type in "Rapid Height", then two boxes I can check "Start Spindle" and "Prep at feedrate"

Now this is what I call CNC instabilities, can you post your CNC controller here sir? maybe you can solve your instabilility issues with just a simple solution

    You're right.
All you need to do is type in a rapid height that's clear, and check the start spindle box, and it should work. You should be starting at a line right before a rapid move, so it picks up during the rapid. This is a much safer option.

    Hey everyone.

The rapid height input solved this issue. I cannot believe I didn't investigate that beforehand.

As far as the machine going into emergency shut down randomly. We thought this was caused by the old motors and or controller so we upgraded everything, I will run down brands later, and we have the same issue. So I am thinking it is in the wires somewhere??

    knowlzy,
You random shutdowns of Mach3 are most likely not your motors but rather noise getting into your system. Try to implement 24V logic on your limit switch input and this will disappear. Normally this happens when people start up their spindles. If that is your situation, you can add a 24V relay close to your controller. Then have 24V run through the NC contacts of your limit switches to the 24V power pin of the relay. The contact side of the relay will be your limit input to the CNC controller. This will make you system more noise immune and eliminate the flashing estop errors. The contact side has the Com tie to ground, and the NC tie to the limit input pin.

    Russ,

That does sound like one of my issues, 99.99 percent of days when I hit "Start" on my first program of the day, the spindle spools then kicks out. Sounds like what you were describing, as far as the fix goes I am pretty sure you typed that in Greek lol!! That is way above my skill level, may have to run down some youtube videos. Thank you though for taking the time to walk through that whole solution. The other, more troublesome, issue is when I restart a program a few times (happens more than it should) at a random point throughout the sheet the spindle will kick out and spin until it comes to a natural stop. No ramping down or "braking" just coasts to a stop. Which sometimes is very quick because it is still running the program! So it will run until the spindle stops, snap my end mill off, then just keeps running the program as if nothing ever happened. It could happen at any time, but only after I have had to restart a program a few times. Strangest thing to me.
