Do you plan on using a parallel port, or do you want to use an external motion controller?

If using a parallel port, and you want to use a laptop, it needs to be probably 10 years old or more.

If you use a motion controller, you can use any laptop.

Just about any desktop PC will work. I use an old 1Ghz Pentium III.

Thanks for the reply. I'm using the plug-n-play electronics kit and the ethernet smooth stepper.

This is what I bought for my machine as I wanted something small and energy efficient.

    Lenovo ThinkCentre M92P USFF Desktop i5 3470T 2 9GHz 4GB 320GB Windows 7 Pro | eBay

I did add a Samsung 850 SSD for reliability and speed but that was all I needed to change. I did actually add more memory to 8GB but it wasn't necessary.

I've been running 64-bit on everything for years.

With the Ethernet Smoothstepper, you can use just about any computer you want, laptop or desktop, 32 or 64 bit.. I'd actually recommend something more modern.

Thanks all. Cory provided me with more information that they have ess with an external motion controller, so I should be ok with what I got. One less thing to buy (he says after the bundle just dropped for the machine)
