Default MACH 1..the BEST choice in affordable software for CNC control

I am in no way affiliated with Art or Artsoft....Just giving credit where credit is do and.........
Just a very pleased customer that encourages anyone into hobby/commercial machining that is set up for CNC,to give it a try.

IMHO, Mach 1/2 is a superior product compared to more expensive, complicated DOS controller packages available commercially, and is easy to use, has a pleasant user interface too.........will run your steppers/ servos soo smooth and precisely(and In my exp. will not lose steps as other windows controllers do.....
Something NOT though possible within the Windows envirement.
Art has proved those comments to be ludicrous.

    Kudos Art !

I ran a test on a machine I had and was very impressed how smooth the stepper ran. It is a pretty user frendly program and is packed with features.

Default Mach1 is GREAT for fine control!!

I replaced my vendor's MS-DOS software with Mach1. I kept breaking .031 Mother-of-Pearl bits due to acceleration issues. Mach1 gives me very fine control. I haven't broken a bit since switching to Mach1 and tuning my system up. Mach2 will probably be the future of all small shop CNC control systems when it is combined with Gecko 2002. That should be about 8 months away. Yes, I'm another VERY satisfied customer!!!

    Yeah. I just hate it when I break a $25 bit !

Or even worse when you have one break off and ruin a $60 piece of stock!

I find it hard to believe that anyone who tries out Mach1/2, will be dissappointed!

Whats the max step-rate of Mach 1?
I use the larken Lcam software and its works smooth and fast. Also is the most userfriendly ive seen.
I Tried CNC pro but it was jerky and lost steps

    Hi,

Gecko 2002 is a HARDWARE pulser engine that Mariss at GeckoDrives has almost ready for release. It is an open-source-code, open-hardware-design project that will bring FOUR MILLION pulses per second capability to affordable CNC equipment soon. Art at ArtSoft has been working (casually) to interface to this new jewel. The combination of Mach2 and Gecko 2002 will make one of the most advanced controllers available anywhere. See details on this project at the (competing forum begins with 'Y') group 'geckodrive'.

I am thinking about trying mach2. I have tried turbocnc with my Xylotes board and it works great. Just would be nice to use a mouse instead of the keybaord to do things. also dont care to much for the jog option on turbocnc. I have read alot of people that are happy with mach2 or mach1. Will this work for any mother board?

Yes, most motherboards will run the Mach series. Let me know if you have any trouble and I'll help you through the trouble spots...

    Hey Art,
I am trying to set the program up on my laptop its a pII400. I did the ocr test and the pulse frequency is 25380. Is this any good?

Also has any one set this up with there Xylotex boards yet?

Yup, thats perfect. Next test is to run the program and see how you do. You could also run MAch2 which will display more statistics on its diagnostic pages, such as "worst-time" and actual frequency, but it sounds more like your ready to run some motor tests and see how everything works.

I am not familiar with your controllers, but I know others have used them.

    Good luck,
    Art

    Default mach1 & xylotex

this is kind of a delayed response to an earlier question... but yes the xylotex board and mach1 work perfect together. With a 28v power supply I get great torque and cutting speeds even with smaller nema 23 motors... smooth as silk! The best results I have gotten with any software... and I've tried a few of them now. I guess I'm lazy, but the windows GUI and mouse control makes it much easier than most DOS type softwares to learn or use. Of course having a toolpath display is nice too.

Add my name to the list of happy customers! Art answered my questions right away and setting up was a snap! I have 3 steppers dancing around on the floor, humming away happily. I can't wait to get my machine finished!

    Great software, Art!

I have mach2 on my mill, I am using Gecko drives and servos. It seems to work well, but I need to find a good source for tech support, I am trying to digitize a part, and I can't figure it out. Any one have any suggestions?

    Default Digitizing...

To digitize, run the digitizng wizard. It will create a G-Code file of the matrix required and the probe commands required.

You then need a spring loaded switch as your tool. This program will create a file (it will ask for the name) and it will create a point cloud file of the object. You then need a cam program to create toolpaths or objects fromthe point cloud. (Rhino..etc..)
