    Default Mach 4 With 5-Phase Vexta Drivers/Motors

    Hi,

Can Mach 4 work with Vexta stepper drivers which have a...

    Pulseforward pin
    and a...
    Pulsebackward pin

    --instead of a...
    Forward/Reverse pin
    and a...
    Step pin.

    Thanks.
(I have a few Vexta Harmonic drives, you know, for extra axis : )

    Hi

I'm not sure where I found this to convert step + direction to step CW & step CCW and vis versa -

either circuit is made from a quad 2 input NAND gate IC like the 7400 or later version like 74HC00

Well, that was nice : )
    Thank you.

It's not as simple as a software solution, but it will keep me from even having to think about discarding stepper motors with zero-backlash harmonic drives attached, especially this motor with a 370 Kg/Cm torque rated harmonic drive, which seems like it really wants to be part of a small homebuilt 5 axis machine, once I add a coupler/bearing assembly.

    Hi

I think I found the circuits when I needed to convert the inputs to an electronic counter

I've just had a quick web search for drivers that can use either step & direction or step CW & step CCW inputs

so far I've only found 2 phase drives like this -

    from page 14

    PS

initial thoughts for possible PCB layout for signal converter - use one IC per axis

And thanks for your initial thoughts. : )
I saved this webpage in Firefox's Scrapbook
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...don/scrapbook/

Programming stuff like this is trivial on an Arduino, but I may not be using one for a controller to control the drivers that drive the motors.
This is my first contact with TTL.

    Thanks, again.

the earliest logic element I've used was
a Mullard NORBIT 2NOR60 - twin 4 input NOR gate
made with discrete components assembled on a potted PCB

ttl devices are from 60's and there has been various versions over the years
including TTl compatible CMOS devices including 74HCT series

any one wanting to do things the hard way for the challenge
you could build a clock using transistors to build
all the logic elements without using ready made logic IC's
