    HiTorque Mini Mill Drive System

First, it's dead simple to add reverse to a HiTorque Mini Mill. A single pole, single throw switch (or relay) does it.
And the spindle speed is appropriate for a manual mill of this size. You can change the pulleys if you want higher top speed for CNC work.
The motor controller consists of two boards in machines with the brushless DC drive system. The main controller board is very similar in the Mini Mill and the 3501 CNC machine. I'm guessing that the small auxiliary board from the 3501 will also work with the HiTorque Mini Mill to provide Mach 3 control of the spindle.

    Cool .

On my radio control electric motors I just reverse 2 wires to get reverse . There brushless too . I guess your spindle motor works the same ?

Im was going to have the SX2 delivered to my work in Rancho Cordova,Ca. .
If I order today or tomorrow what day could I expect it to arrive . Thanks for the quick response on the spindle motor .

    Reversing a brushless motor

I suppose you could reverse the motor by swapping two of the motor leads. But what I am talking about is doing it under control. Using the SPST switch, the motor brakes to a stop, then accelerates back to the set speed.

    X2 class CNC machine

    Hi Chris,
I have a question about your CNC mill. How smooth of a finish would it produce on 6061, cutting out a 1.25" hole. I make sidewheel focus rings for target scopes, and a nice finish is important. I am currently using a boring head and leaves a smooth enough hole that no polishing is required.
Here is a link to what I am making:

    Thanks,
    Eric

    Eric:

I'm not the best authority on machining feeds and speeds, but in my experience I would expect a similar finish with a light climb milling cut.

I would not expect as good of a tolerance and surface finish doing a circle interp. move on any mill as I would with a boring head.

when you need a "true" bore, a boring head is the way to go...
