Question Homing Problem

First of all I apologise for my bad English. I am from the south of germany, and doing my best to write.

I am trying to configure EMC, for my 3 axis mill. The axis travel all in the correct direction, but i have some problems with the homing. EMC runs on the Ubuntu (6.06) live CD EMC Version 6.06. something.

The machine uses 1 switch per axis. This switch is used for homing, and end position.

I tried to configure that in the stepconf wizard.
The axis runs in direction of the switch, and i get an message „joint 0 on limit switch error“. It is right .. the home switch is also the limit switch, but how can i get rid of this problem?
According to the EMC Documentation I checked my ini file, but the „HOME_IGNORE_LIMITS = YES“ option is included.

Any good ideas?

I attached my complete ini files. Maybe they can help to solve the problem.

Greetings from the south of germany
Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,

Welcome to the forum!

Did you wire NO or NC? have you tried to invert the signal in stepconf?

Sorry, but i don't understand this question.

Yes, when i invert the signal i get the error "joint 0 on limit switch error" immediately for all 3 axis.

NO = Normally open
NC = Normally closed

I just thought it may be reversed in stepconf..

Maybe you need an "HOME_IS_SHARED"

'HOME_IS_SHARED' is a value setable from the ini in the AXIS_* section. If there is not a separate home switch input for this axis, but a number of momentary switches wired to the same pin, set this value to 1 to prevent homing from starting if one of the shared switches is already closed. Set this value to 0 to permit homing even if the switch is already closed.

Does it work as intended when you configure the switches to only be home switches?

Good idea! But there is absolute no difference.
EMC ignores this option.

No, EMC will ignore the switches completely and run the axis to the "mechanical stop".

hmm.. well this is weird. are you 100% sure that you have the defined pins wired to the correct switches? I believe that if you push one of them it should light up a round "home" icon next to the DRO of that axis.

btw, this is true for me. I have only wired them up as home switches.

Well it is weird. I am 100% shure the wires are correct. The machine is running on Windows (WIN PC-NC) just perfectly. But that software is very painful to work with.

Pressing one of the Buttons configured as "home switch" nothing
Pressing the same Button as "end switch" emc tells me the correct error message.

What was the actual signal name you selected for the shared home switch?
How many switches do you have on the axis?
When homing try pressing the other limit switches. Do any of them work?
Can you post your stepconfig files?
What version of EMC are you using?

Just took a quick look at your files (INI and HAL).
Just a hunch try changing the signal in stepconf to 'max limit + home'
I think you have EMC confused on which direction is positive.
The SEARCH_VELOCITY in the INI file is positive which tells EMC to move in the positive direction.
You told stepconf that the home switch is shared with the negative limit switch.
Obviously, If you move in the positive direction you will not hit the negative switch!
Do some more testing and let us know what happens!

Cheers Chris M

Hi!

I found my error in the EMC configuration.

The documentation of my Mill is wrong!
The switches are on other pins, than stated in the documentation.

This took me a long time to figure out.

Thanks to every one!

Greetings from Germany
Sebastian

I have a question....

can we make the machine homed without an external switch? so we just click the AXIS's "home" button for homing the machine...
