Exclamation EMC project 3 axes! lets get it on!!

Hi everybody,

i'm trying to start my first CNC. I have BDI 4.18 (debian) installed on my computer. i would need a control device/module (kind of like Geckodrive) for my stepper. here is my motor spec. 1.8VDC 7A 200step/rev
any advise ? i also have a transformer, 4 resistor 5ohms , 1 big capacitor, and brige for ac/dc current. Am i missing something ?

wire, ac cord, parallel port cable, breakout board/cable...what ya doing with 5 ohm resistors?....clues.....

well the 5 ohms resistor are to prevent the over heating of the motor ....

my motors are 1.67 VDC with 7Amps


6 wires (8 points) something like this :

@K-linkz:
Buy the Geckos and put the resistors back in your drawer. The Geckos chop up the current in pieces just large enough to get the most out of your motors without overheating them. No need for current dropping resistors.

ok thanx for the advise.

i have a question : i went to www.geckodrive.com to have a look.
and in there spec. they say that the gecko module give 24 to 80 VDC
and 0.3 to 7 Amp

my problem is that my motor take 7Amps but the voltage is 1.67 VDC isn't it a little to
strong for my motor

second quetion i try to control one motot then with a drive (not a gecko) but the logic output wasn't good by that i mean the motor was like fighting him self. the Output was 2 by 2 ===> 1 0 1 0 ===> 0 1 1 0 ===> 0 1 0 1 ....

and i think i need 1 by 1 ===> 1 0 0 0 ====> 0 1 0 0 ===> 0 0 1 0...

what do you think ??????????? (will the gecko be able to do that )

anyways here what is written on my motor (6 wires)

superior electric

synchronous/stepping motor

type mo92-fd-310 200 oz.in.

200 step per. rev.

1.65 V. 6.8 A. DC HZ
spec. BM101025

65 *C rise class B insul.

if you dont like living dangerously i would suggest you get an optoisolated breakout board for your parallel port, as you can cause some serious damage to your pc if you get a shortcircuit and dont have one.

Normally the stepper is run at 10 to 20 times the rated voltage so about 30vdc sounds about right for those motors. Look on the Gecko site for the white papers.
