Newbie- EMC with QCad

Hi all,
I've nearly finished my MDF cnc and am waiting on the motors/electronics now. While im waiting i've been looking at using EMC and qcad with dxf2gcode in between.

I now have a query about this setup. Is qcad capable of producing a dxf with depth information within it so i can cut a resess without penetrating through wood being cut, and still have full through holes cut as well?

My recollection is that QCad is 2d. However, some dxf to gcode programs will allow you to create different depth cuts for different layers.

There is also HeeksCAD which can import the DXF and with HeeksCNC you can generate the gcode. All doable in linux (windows version as well). I am pretty sure you can do 2.5 with HeeksCAD

it takes a little getting use to and works better on metric stuff but I have used it before. Also can do engraving of text. Gsimple is not the best with 3D parts. I believe it only works with dxf files.

HeeksCAD and HeeksCNC sounds interesting and I will definitely check them out.
