    EMC2 Configuration File for G540

    Hello,

Pardon my ignorance but I was wondering if there is a configuration file for EMC2 similar to an XML file for Mach3. We currently have an XML file on our website for those of our customers using Mach3 with the G540 and have had quite a few inquiries about setting up EMC2 for use with the G540.

My question is this: Does anybody have the G540 set up in EMC2 and is willing to email me or post their configuration file for me to put on our website? I am thinking this will make life very easy for our customers who are using this program. Thank you!

Edit: Whoops, I forgot my email address: geckomarcus@geckodrive.com. Thanks again!

    Hi Marcus.

Yes, I have a config file I will send you. Mariss sent me a G540 last fall, and I just haven't gotten the file to you yet. I think he intended to put it on your website near the Mach file.

I have sent it to a couple of others who have actual machines, and so far it seems to work fine. I will write up instructions on how to tune it as well, and give you a zip or tar archive with all the info.

Sorry it's taking me so long to get the config to you.
    - Steve

    Steve,

That would be great. Just get it to me any time. I think having the config file for Mach3 and EMC2 will cover about 95% of all G540 hobby users and should take care of a lot of problems. Thank you!

    bcackalica,

I'm a little surprised it's working for you with the settings on your page. I found that the step output was supposed to be inverted, or I'd get position errors from time to time. My test was to run a motor back and forth with G0 moves, with a laser pointing at a wall 10 feet away. I could easily see one micro-step of error that way.

It may be due to the more relaxed timing you're using (the Gecko timing in the drop-down box is for some older drive models, you can use 1000 for all four entries with the G540).

Would you mind trying your config with all the timings reduced to 1000, and see if you get any position errors? (note: you'll have to look at the actual machine or motor to see this error, EMC2 is outputting all the steps, they just might not get noticed by the drive if the settings are wrong.) If you do see any errors, invert the step outputs and try again. Note that with tighter timing you'll get higher speed, but it's also more important to use the real latency number for your machine (or higher).

    Thanks
    - Steve

    Hi Steve!
I use Emc2 version 2.2.2 not the new-one (2.2.8) and if you mean this configuration
like on the picture then I tasted the same code again without any errors .http://www.onel.se/all_files/bilder/Screenshot.png
    Video with your configuration:
    "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJC1Y_cn0oQ"]YouTube - bpcnc

    http://www.onel.se/all_files/bilder/emil.jpg
    I don't have any laser
to measure accuracy.I had an error first time when I had maximum Velocity = 60 and maximum Acceleration = 62
the I changed it to maximum Velocity = 58 and maximum Acceleration = 60 and no more errors.Velocity-test
10000-13000 but I use 15000 as you can see in my conf.file.I get 3.5 meter /minute g0 which satisfy my needs.
I have got a little over 4 meter when I manually decrease BASE_PERIOD in "ini.file".
    Yes,I don't use inverted output.
    I use power supply 32volt 70wtt(waiting for 36volt 300-3500VA to arrive .
    I use laptop celeron processor 2.4Ghz shared memory(3.5-4 meter/minute)-g540.
I use laptop Pentium III processor 850 Mhz shared memory (2-2.5 meter/minute)-g540,too.
From now I will use your configuration.

With some other controller from ebay 120 dollar Ihave got 1.87 meter/minute g0 speed with half step (400 step per rev)
To g540 driver I must give 2000 steps to rotate 360 degree with double speed on the same Laptop.
If I buy better Laptop I can increase speed with g540 but not with the same ebay card I had.

I have got best speed with Linux Puppy-older emc1 .
If people likes the newest Emc2 then I recommend using xubuntu.

    Thanks!
