| Hello! I bought Pluto-P board and would like to start useing it but i dont understand this ...The counters operate in "4x" mode. The maximum useful quadrature rate is 8191 counts per emc2 servo cycle, or about 8MHz for EMC2’s default 1ms servo rate. ...... ( from EMC2 integrator manual ) What does it mean ' servo cycle '? How much is the maximum encoder pulses per revolution ? Can i use encoder with 5000 pulses ? without loseing counts Regards |

| A quadrature encoder is capable of producing 4 times the number of counts that it has marks for. So, a 1000 count encoder would produce 4000 pulses per rotation in 4x mode. What happens is that there are at least two detectors in the encoder and as a result for each mark channel A produces a high going pulse and a low going pulse and the same for channel B. So four pulses for each mark. I believe that it is saying that 8192 counts per servo thread period (1 millisecond) and approximately 1000 periods per second giving you around 8 million pulses per second. RPM / 60 = rotations per second. Counts per rotation X rotations per second = counts per second. So it depends on how fast you want to spin the motor. 5000 pulses per rotation (your talking about a 1250 count encoder right?). 8,000,000 / 5000 = 1600 rotations per second. 1600 * 60 = 96000rpm. I don't know whether my math is correct or not but if so that is a seriously fast read rate. Alan
