Problem with spindle using motenc-lite board

Hello,

I am a beginner working with a motenc-lite board to control a XYZ axis + spindle milling machine (servo motor). I want to connect the DAC3 output to the spindle so that I can control the speed of the spindle by codes like S500. Currently the DAC1, 2 and 3 outputs are connected to provide voltages to X,Y,Z axis. What should I set in my hal files in order to give out analog voltage signals from DAC3 output to the spindle?
Thank you so much.

Jacky

I will take a stab..

Net spindle-speed-cmd motion.spindle-speed-out => motenc.0.dac-03-value
# this should be the ratio between your rpm vs S command.
setp motenc.0.dac-03-gain 1

there is an offset also you may have to play with
setp motenc.0.dac-03-offset 0

Thank you samco

Currently I can get +/- 10V from DAC3 if I set the spindle move forward or reverse. However, I am still not able to see the voltage change when I increase or decrease the speed of the spindle. Is there any way to do it? Thanks

Not 100% sure of this but

Lets say your spindle maxes out at 4000rpm at 10v. so s4000=4000rpm

so 10v/4000 = .0025

setp motenc.0.dac-03-gain .0025

but it might be 1/4000 or .00025

By the way, I have another question regarding to the I/O setting.
In the I/O.hal, the default for amp enables are:

# Connect amp enables to motion controller.
linksp Xenable => motenc.0.out-08
linksp Yenable => motenc.0.out-09
linksp Zenable => motenc.0.out-10

Since my milling machine only provides one amp connector for all X,Y and Z axis, is there any way that I can connect them into 1 output instead of 3 outputs? (e.g. motenc.0.out-08 for all of them)

Talking to an emc guru - you could just hook up one of the enables. (emc truns the enables on/off all at once anyway.)
