What does this mean?

This came up yesterday when I was running a program.

AXIS ERROR:

RTAPI ERROR. Unexpected realtime delay on task 1?

Anyone?

Good info on there.

Also, another quick question. I reinstalled EMC2 on this new dell and not sure what version I have. I still think I have the old version.

Anyway, I have my new DEB folder with the newest update of EMC2. I have instructions on how to install it but after I type in the command in my terminal it asks for a password. After it does this, I can't type anything for the password, it won't let me. So my installation I guess never happens, even though it says close terminal and reboot computer after the command.

Maybe it will fix this delay problem, but I still wanna update EMC2.

When you start up EMC2 it should tell you the version number at the top of the screen.

Have you run the latency test on your Dell, while running something like glxgears? (It needs to be something that uses openGL.) Maybe Stepconf?

Can you hook up your Dell to the internet for long enough to run the software update?

Are you still running Ubuntu 6.06 or have you changed to 8.04?

Thats weird, I didn't see what version on top. I tried looking for it but didn't see it.

I ran a Latency test on the Dell with practically every single game open and got 25,000. Not to bad.

I just bought a Ethernet cable, should arrive soon. I will have internet access soon.

I still have Ubuntu 6.06 but have the 8.04 in the shop on a CD.

And Joey- Yes, many many times.

I just came to another conclusion, before I upgraded to the G540. I just remembered something, I went back and looked at pictures of my prototype product I cut right before the G540. It was a damn slow system (6IPM max) but I noticed that in the pictures, it never messed up once. It never gained those z-axis steps, it never did any of that, it never lost steps on the Y! My pictures confirm this. And that was with the E-machines! Then I got the G540, made new stepconf and have had more problems then success.....HMMMMM. I literally just checked the pictures and made me realize.

Jason,

If the version number is not at the top of the screen then you have the old version. The upgrade for the Hardy version (8.04) is not the same as the upgrade for the Dapper version (6.06). Since you are running 6.06, make sure that you have the .deb for the Dapper version in order to upgrade.

I would slow things back down and see if things work and then just increase speeds a little bit at a time, to see if you can (1) produce good parts and then (2) speed things up. Some one here on the zone has a tag line that says "first you get good and then you get fast". This probably isn't what they meant but it is applicable.

Alrighty, I will give it a try.

Acon- I uploaded my Deb though on my flash yesterday, typed the command in the terminal to install the version and it asked for a password in the terminal. I could however not type anything, I closed the terminal and rebooted. Did it do anything? No, did it install? No...Why won't it allow me to type my password after the command.

I also don't really wanna reinstall 8.04, are people running it ok? Could it possibly update things? First I would like to install the updated EMC2 but the terminal won't let me !

In some linux distros, if you come to a password prompt, the password or even asterisks don't show as you type them, you just have to trust that they're there. Try typing in the password and "enter" on faith.

Jason,

I am running 8.04 on my lathe but haven't installed it yet on my router. Getting it running was a pain but since everything is moving that way I thought it was time to try it out.

I experienced the keyboard lock up sometimes when I was trying to get wireless running, but I don't know what is causing your problem there. Rebooting usually cleared it up for me.

I was unable to update EMC2 on 8.04 from 2.2.5 to 2.2.8 until I got connected to the internet, to darn many missing dependencies.

Beege- I will try what you said.

Alan, I will try to update my 6.06 first and then maybe install 8.04. My ethernet cable is coming this week, I will have access to the internet. I cross my fingers and hope that works!

Beege- Yes it worked, although in the terminal. Not sure at which line it said Fail.

But when I rebooted, EMC2 showed it had been updated.
