| Hey guys, trying to install this new ATI card for my e-machines to help my computer! It's an older ATI card and is said be good with what I need. I can't get this thing installed with Linux! I have been trying to install it but O keep getting this Grey screen with a blue box that says something like "My server X is not reconized and that my graphical interface is set-up incorrectly" Then it asks me about proceeding to view the problem and I end up on another grey screen and it does nothing. Yet, while this is all happening, the ATI card is in the PCI slot and the screen is attached to it which is obviously working because I can see the screen. I can't get into EMC2 and now it seems to be happening even when I take out the card and plug the monitor back onto the onboard connector. I reinstalled Vista today and installed the card thinking it would then notice it in Linux (Duh! it's a new OS, so I ruled that out) I messed with the BIOS settings and only changed 1 section which mentioned "obboard" "pci" "pciexepress" which Had something to do with setting the default for the interface. Any help here? -Jason |

| Now I can seem to start EMC from the disk even after I remove the ATI card and plug the monitor into the Mobo. This is what comes after it asks me if I want to start/install, check cd for errors etc. In this order. ![]() I then click ok, this comes up now. ![]() I click ok again because there is nothing else I can do. ![]() Then a black screen comes up and mentions something about Sudo and acts like I should type in a command. How do I get the ATI card to work with EMC or now more importantly! Why won't it boot! I have put the video priority in BIOS back to pciEXe like it use to be, (Even though I have no card in the express) I tried on-board video (Did not load) and tried from PCI slot in BIOS with ATI card installed/uninstalled and still no boot??? It boots up to Vista fine though ![]() -Jason Last edited by SpeedsCustom; 12-04-2008 at 07:01 PM. |

| Jason, It sounds like it actually booted you into linux at the standard linux prompt, no gui. Which version of the Ubuntu LiveCD did you download and burn 6.06 or 8.04? Alan

actually it looks like the OS tried to start up X, but failed due to lack of video support... |

| Is it possible that my monitor as well is causing any problems? Probably not right? Also, what about trying EMC with the new Ubuntu 8.04&EMC2? Whats the difference between the two!? Why does all of this have to be so painful! So little time! -Jason |
