Instal not using Ubuntu

Last night I ran update manager on my system which appeared to uninstall EMC2 from my system. Luckily, it seems the config directory still exists so I didnt lose my .ini and .hal files. Lightly reading the install doc's, it appears that it's geared to install in Ubuntu dapper, which I think is an older version I think after I did the update, it installed as Hardy.

Ideally, I would like to install EMC2 to a Centos 5.2 system. Are there tarballs that exist so I can do the usual ./configure, make / install - or would I just be creating a mess, and should stick to using Ubuntu?

I've seen that upgrade option in the update manager window and avoided it like the plague. My guess is you have borked the emc install. Could be wrong, choose the RT kernel at bootup (if it still exists) and see what happens?

The current advice from linuxcnc appears to be;
If you are happy with Dapper continue to use it
If doing a fresh install go with Hardy

Running something other than Ubuntu is swimming upstream. Don't even think about it unless there is a very compelling reason.
