    Lightbulb European EMC meeting brainstorm!

A while back (at the EMC mailing list) I promised to investigate how a European EMC-fest/meeting could be arranged. I have some ideas and suggestions, but it would be great to have as many influences as possible and that means from all of you! Please throw in your ideas or suggestions!

It seems I need more input, so I'll throw it out here too.

    Possible location?
Is there a machine to CNC-ify or retrofit?
    Topics for classes?
Possible teachers or do you have something to present?
    Experiences from other EMC-gatherings?

    It's brainstorm time!

Hi there, i am from the UK and it would be grate to see a EMC meet over this side of the pond as such.

ill try kick start things with you here

    Possible location?
i think somewhere where someone has some machiens to be fitted out where a project could be started or helped along in some way.

or some where someones got some machiens they would't mind people having access to to look & touch EMC fitted would be nice but other controls would be fine also (fanuc, Simens etc etc) . so you could get a good comparsion for people to see.

Is there a machine to CNC-ify or retrofit?
as i mentioned above, would be a ideal thing to have at the venue, so a CNC shop willing to host the event and would't mind public having some hands on, like they did over in US with there mazak

    Topics for classes?
think this comes down to what type of people would be coming, hobby? retrofitters? etc etc, id expect more hobby but theres alot of us out here looking to fit EMC to old warn out control machines.
as we are one, we are currently in process of converting our leadwell from an old mitsubishi meldas control to EMC with 4 axis with mesa cards, we have had to put encoders onto it, so taking out ball screws, cleaning up the machine sorting out connections etc etc, we have a old Hardinge CHNC waiting to be done also which will be getting new digital servo motors and full clean and refit.
with more to be done as we go.

Possible teachers or do you have something to present?
im sure if we can drum up enough people someone in the croud would have some good knowledge they would be willing to share with others, maybe you could get some 3rd parts intrested who other servo drives to give some talks for hobby guys, along with servo motors etc,
classes on wiring guids what to do and use and what not to, list goes on

    Experiences from other EMC-gatherings?
if you to be doing EMC retrofittings guys with some good EMC back ground & useage would be required i feel to keep ontop of it all and keep it safe and clean. some sure theres plenty of them out there wanting to come and help

have you put this on the mailing list for EMC? i dont get to check it out too much.

    cheers
    rob
