Need Help!- emc2 install

ok have my router 95% built,software that is a loaded word.downloaded mach seems fine when i ran it from my computer i downloaded it from.so i tried to burn it so i could move it my router comp, would not copy the install file.so thought i would try another approch emc2 burned the iso seems good.went to install this and i get this (disk error 32,ax=4280,drive9F) defintely im no software guru was wondering where to go from this.was wondering about the file format needed fat 32 nt etc. does it have any bearing what so ever.

I'm not sure what error32 signifies, but my guess is it will have nothing to do with formatting. Some type of disk read error (optical or hd) probably. Ubuntu wants ext3 formatting afaik or can remember. The install disk takes care of this.

Failed installs have always been a problem with the optical drive for me. The first sign the cd drive is going wonky. Maybe the case here but maybe not. Can the cd boot up into the live environment, meaning the "do not install" mode?
Can you get as far as the "check cd for errors" option?

A few things to try (in order of pain).
1) Burn the cd again. This time burn as slow as your software allows.
2) Try disabling the hard disk(s) physically or in bios before booting cd.
3) Swap out the cd drive if you have an extra.

What type of computer and how much ram? Hope it's not a laptop.
Ubuntu 6.06 or 8.04? I'm having an issue installing 8.04 on my own computer atm.

One more thing you can check is if you are using a 40 pin IDE cable or a 80 pin cable. I have heard of issues with the 40 pin. If you swap it out with a newer 80 pin cable this could fix your issue.

I surrendered trying to install the 8.0.4 from linuxcnc.org.
Strangely enough 8.0.4 downloaded from ubuntu.com worked first try. Go figure.

Back when I tried to install Ubuntu 6.06LTS and EMC2 from the recommended Live CD It would not successfully boot from the CD on either of two machines I wanted to put it on. On both machines I successfully installed Ubuntu via downloaded ISO file and then installed EMC2 from the alternate install instructions on LinixCNC.org.

When Ubuntu 8.04LTS and the new EMC2 were announced I waited a week and then installed them from the LiveCD download onto the same two machines. I tried the alternate install first, since it worked that way with the older version, and it would not work. Go figure.

With the older 6.06LTS I could copy CamBam gcode files from WinXP CD to the Ubuntu hard drive and could use the files right away. Now I have to change the file permissions for each file I copy to the hard drive before I can use them because the file's icon has a lock icon in it. For the first week after installing 8.04LTS I could not change the file permissions at all. The only thing that would move or get rid of the files was to send them to the trash can, and then I could delete them. Then something happened during an automatic update that allows me to change the file permissions. I still have to manually change the permissions though.

Otherwise, I like Ubuntu a lot. EMC2 will take some time to form an opinion on it, but it seems to be able to do what I want from it.

thanks for the good suggestions,I did try to redownload emc2 same error at least it is consitent.havent had alot of time to really get into this guess i was pnp with it.oh well will keep tinkerin with it more suggestions the merrier.

Doh, the easy way to start troubleshooting this is obvious. This is a live cd and that's a beautiful thing

Here's what I'm assuming. As soon as the computer attempts to boot the cd the error appears. At least this proves you attempted to burn as an image. If it was simply burnt as a file the computer would ignore it and move on to whatever is next in the boot order. Either the image did not burn correctly or it doesn't like some piece of your hardware. There is an md5sum (entegrity check) available for the download, but 2 bad downloads seems very unlikely.

Try the cd another machine. As long as "install" is not selected, the computer is not altered in any way. Take the opportunity to play around in the live in ram environment.

If the cd fails to boot on the second machine the disk is most likely bad. Take the downloaded iso to the second machine (by usb stick or whatever) and attempt to burn the image. Preferrably with a different burning software. This remove the likelihood of some burner or or burning program incompatibility. Nero worked well for me back in the windows years. Maybe it's still good(?)

This is backyard mechanic troubleshooting. "If it doesn't work swap it out"

Edit/ If all else fails there is network install. Then emc and kernel would have to be installed in another step. yuck.

It very well could be the program used to burn the CD. I tried a few store bought ones with no success at all. Then I was pointed to a freeware burning utility that did an excellent job of burning an image that loaded without a hitch.
