If your interested in trying EMC I will try to help as much as possible. I have used LINUX for 13 years and still use WIN98. Linux and Windows are tools...I use them as tools. EMC is stable and works good...however you can tweak steppers better with WIN programs like Kcam. EMC is free so I do not complain about it's lacking features...its free what the heck. It will advance like Linux did and still does, but for now EMC is just what it is...free! I drive 4 unisteppers with a an old PC PWR box. And no that is not a great idea but it is getting me by for now. You are better of using non-regulated PWR for steppers like an old transformer pack. My first CNC was a mill made from shower stall rails, wood and other junk...and it cut wood with a dremel or rotozip. I am on CNC 2 now and use a new BOSCH variable speed router ($215) and it is AWSOME! No more smoke and the cuts are faster, deeper and cleaner. I even routed a sign made from PLASTER OF PARIS. I painted the top after it dried then the letters were engraved. This sign is came out good with white letters appearing below the dark red top color. Jeff |
