The tool tip is following the coin on the table.
Chris' description I just got my 5 axis MAXNC hack working tonight. On a 5-axis machine, the tool orientation and the point on the workpiece are programmed separately. You can change one without changing the other. You can see in this video that the tooltip is over the workpiece (penny) which is at X1 Y1. As I move the rotary axes B and C to change the tool orientation, the tip does not move with respect to the workpiece. This requires complex compensating motion of the table and head. This is possible with the power of the Free and Open Source EMC2 motion control software. Work in EMC2 to support these kinds of machines is ongoing. http://www.linuxcnc.org |
