How to install emc2

Hello,
Yes I meant I burned a copy of the iso image. I tried booting my system with the cd in it and it just starts windows. I did set the bios to look at the cd 1st but still windows! Is there any way to check if my cd did not copy correctly?
I looked at it with explorer and the file is on the cd at ~680 meg.

Your burning software needs to be able to burn an iso. An iso is an image of the actual cd. The burning software takes the iso and 'unzips it' in effect onto the cd. You cannot just copy the iso file onto the cd.

I know the version of roxio that came with my dell does not burn ISO images unless I buy an upgrade.

Here is an example using nero

Go to the Ubuntu website and get their Ubuntu 6.06 LTS. Install that and check that everything works ok.

then hook up your machine to the net and run this install script.
http://linuxcnc.org/dapper/emc2-install.sh

that's a very easy way to install emc2.

Good image on CD

Thanks for the help guys,
I was using Nero to copy the image. I found I had to use burn Image and then I selected the image files option under what type of file to copy. I now have a cd to try tonight!

aNY LUCK? i TO AM HAVEING THE EXACT same problems. I explored the cd and it seams to have all the files and folders that aerojc suggested. When booting from this disc windows starts up with no sign of ecm2 or ubuntu.Am using "nero express" an older version of Nero . Have windows xp and Norton .
Have even tried to install ubuntu and can't get it to work.
I know there are already good ideas posted but am I missing some thing simple?

you probably need to go into your bios at boot time and change the boot order.. My guess is it isn't set to boot off the cd.

or - when the computer starts booting - (bios splash screen) is there something like 'press f10 for boot options' ? I would press that and then select the cdrom device.

Thanks Samco
I thought I was booting off the cd but you were right it was the floppy.
My screen does not use the words BOOT FROM CD , it uses the modle # of the driver and not the modle name I just need to look closer.

I have a cd which has all the files from the earlier post, When I try to boot the computer with this cd it starts to load, then gets to uncompressing linux.....ok,booting the kernel. Then it just hangs there for eternity.
I am trying this on a dell laptop. Could the puter be the problem, or something else?
Thank you for any tips.

couple of things of the top of my head.

1> when you boot - the menu lets you run a md5sum.. run it and make sure it was burned correctly.

2> From my experience and others - you need atleast 256mb of ram.. Some have needed more. (usually some can be removed after the install)

3> the live cd also had a memory test on the boot menu - Might want to run that for a few hours.
