i got me some linux and i got it installed. downloaded live-cd and it is working.opened emc2 and loaded sample stepper xyza.did a little quick testing and all motors are alive.took time to read the manual to get a little idea about how to go about configuration moves.this is what i need now, because there is know way i am willing to study the manual at this time.i am more interested in beating the motors up. i need 8 lines of code,so i can look through the ini files to see where they match up at. only need it for one axis,so lets go with x axis. first code :x move to right. x move to left. 2nd code:x accell increase. x accell decrease. 3rd code: x vel increase x vel decrease 4th code: x pulse width more x pulse width less since i have never edited any linux code before this will give me a little working referance of some doe's and dont's.this is my first post. all i realy like to do is read the forum.it is a great spot. so it is ok if you want to beat me up a little. thanks bill |

| you may want to read the manual on how to setup the ini file , you need to setup your step , vel. accel , etc the speed of your motors can be directly affected by the speed of the computer running the software , which has to be set in the ini file under base period ,if its not setup right you will be crashing the software at higher speeds , concidering this is the brain of the system , you really should take a good look at how to set the ini file so that it is optimal ,it will take some time , effort and trial and error but you will be far better off , its fairly straight forward stuff have fun some help understanding what your facing http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl?SandBox |

| If you haven't installed the latest version of EMC2 2.1.3, I would suggest that you do that before spending a lot of time on the configuration file because the configuration changed some between 2.0 and 2.1. Alan

| thanks good people for looking over me. the motors are now tuned, and running in the right directions.working from the manual is a little tough,if you have never messed with linux.the manual kind of tells you what to do,then it gives you the general zone in wich to do it in. it does not give real sharp pointers,or two sided examples with possible outcomes so you can determin what the doe's and dont's are. p.s. i noticed in the forum that some of the people are having trouble installing with the live-cd.it would kick out at 33% and 66%.i had the same problem. my cure was to burn the cd at half speed, then it worked perfect.it is now time for me to return to a post reader not a poster. thanks for the info! bill |
