When I use EMC2 to do some works, I always start with manually telling EMC2 to move my x, y and z axises. However, everytime after a few manually entered G-Codes, the EMC2 just freezes. This doesn't happen if I run EMC2 off the G-Codes files. What is worst is that I can't stop and start EMC2 again. I need to reboot to run EMC2 again. Do you guys know what is going on and how to solve this problem? If it hangs, how can I kill the process and run the program again? |

| The Linux version is Puppy Linux running EMC2. This is actually the latest version of CD bootable version of Puppy Linux. The stepper controller card is from steeperworld.com. It has 4 axis controller in it. The steppers are 200 lb/in, 1.8 degree per step. I have tried Puppy Linux and EMC2 on a different computer and EMC2 would freezes after a few manual movements also. Once it freezes, I close the process, but I can't restart EMC2. I'll have to reboot the system everytime it happens. Any comments and help would be appreciated. Wachara C. |

| If base period was the problem, it shouldn't work for g code files. That was my first though too. Seems like I remember something along these lines, if you post on the user email list or the IRC channel, I'm sure someone can help you. |

| Talking to the experts. They have never run into a bug like what you are describing. They are leaning towards a hardware issue.... Plus the puppy version of emc2 was before the official 2.0 release. The comment where run a memtest overnight download the emc2 ubuntu 6.02 live cd to try. (someone thought the memtest was an option at boot.) from here. http://www.linuxcnc.org/ This has a more up-to-date version of emc2. run a real time latency test http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emc...roubleShooting section 1.2 also the irc.freenode.net channel #emc is where all the gurus hang out. sam |

Thanks Sam. I tried IRC yesterday night, but for some strange reason I just couldn't see anybody in the board. I'll try again tonight. I'll also download the Ubantu version to try out. I don't think it is the faults on my computers, because I tried Puppy Linux version on these 2 computers and they crashed the same way. It is most likely the bugs in Puppy Linux. Thank you so much for your information. Wachara C. |
