| read read read. that is what I can say. There is a ton of info out there if you know where to look. here are a few http://www.linuxcnc.org/ http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emcinfo.pl/ and irc.freenode.net channel #emc. plus there is the mailing lists http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/f...forum_id=33140 I am a windows user (hello my name is sam). I wanted something with lookahead that turbocnc did not. I found the bdi and goofed around with it. (this is a few years ago). I was not impressed as I had issues with my hardware and I just no knowledge base as far as linux goes. Fast forward to last year. I got interested in emc again and thought I would give it a try. downloaded the latest bdi 4.36 or something - don't really remember. ran emc1 for a while and was not impressed. I did some more searching and found emc2 from the wiki. did everything I needed on the bdi for me to install emc2 - which was a pain - getting sources and compiling. Boy was I glad I did - off the bat it ran better for me. Plus the axis interface ran awsome. from there I found the work that was done for for installing em2 on ubuntu 5.1 here http://wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/emc...nstalling_EMC2. Here are my thoughts. I have installed ubuntu/emc2 on probably 10 differnt computers - testing and running hardware. It has to be about the easiest install setup I have ever done with linux. It found all my hardware - emc2 installed without a hitch. Ubuntu tells me when there are updates to either the operating system or emc2. It networked with no headaches and best of all my keychain drive works .http://www.electronicsam.com/images/...axisubuntu.png http://www.electronicsam.com/images/KandT/Dapper.png this is the next project for emc2 http://www.electronicsam.com/images/...DSCCurrent.JPG just my opinion though. sam |
