I have set my hardware to produce the maximum available power with out damaging my system. I have upped the maximum velocity and acceleration in the generic ini file to make the axis faster. I was wonder what do I need to change in the ini file to provide more power. Am I neglecting some little setting to make it move with a greater torque. My z-axis will not move up or down hardly at all. What about the step size? Would this help matters any? My system is the one given at the link and the mill is the Grizzly mini mill. | Try lowering the accelration, not raising it. And try to move slower, and see if that helps.

I have lowered the acceleration and it is doing better. I am still confused. They are just so many variables. The z axis motor makes a poping noise. It doesnt sound electrical just like something is slipping in the motor. |

| Thats what stepper motors do if your acceleration is to high, or trying to move to fast . You will have to slow it all down so the motor will stop skipping steps. Gibbs might be set to tight,might need a counter balance or bigger stepper motor. |

| That means your pushing the motors too hard. What size motors, and what are the ratings?

The motors are 269oz-in. The mill is direct drive. I dont have a problem running slower. I think that torque is dependant on the motors velocity hence it will be stronger at a lower speed. Please correct me if I am wrong. I am working in SI units. I have calculated the input and output scale to 1000 for 200 pulses per rev motor with a thread that poses 5 threads per inch. Is this correct? I have a few more questions. Can skipping steps damage my motors? (I hope I haven’t damaged any thing.) Why doesn’t the maximum velocity I have placed in the .ini file show up different on the GUI? I am using the GUI mini. The other values such as axis limits are showing up. Is the backlash value simply a number that corresponds to the linear distance that the thread moves prior to the table moving? What files are required in the emc directory and what are not? I am assuming that they are runtime files in the directory. I would like to eliminate as many as possible to simplify maters. They are actually three different versions in the file generic, Sherline inch and millimeter. I simply want one version named after my system. |

| Can't help with the EMC stuff, but you won't damage your motors losing steps.
