    Touchy hardware?

I've been looking for info on the touchy interface.

All the things I've read basically say touchy is an interface for a touch screen.

I've not found the doc that lists what actual touch screens it can actually interface to (or what sort of physical interface it expects; usb, serial/parallel, etc.)

Is it capable of using the usb touch screens that are available? Is touchy the right "stuff" to use for them?

I'm guessing (I don't have one in hand) that they act as an HID plugged into usb and send mouse position/click info.

Is there doc somewhere that explains how one goes about connecting mouse hits coming from a HID device to EMC/HAL etc.

I've read the HAL, Integrators Manual, etc. and have not had the "aha moment" or grocked how that gets configured.

touchy is a touch screen GUI , this will work with any touch screen that will work within your linux version , you may need to install a touch screen driver
which can be tricky , see the posts on the linuxcnc forum , i have posted a touch screen driver which worked for me , if required .

their are also a few hardware switches needed for touchy
    as listed in the readme

I can find no info on how to define the wires, pins etc. from the device to touchy.

If the screen is seen by the system as a keyboard wouldn't it be handled the same as the regular keyboard?

I don't recall seeing how to route keyboard with hal so I have not figured that out yet.

the buttons on the screen layout are designed in glade UI , they are then embedded in to the touchy.py and then via pyvcp to hal pins , you would need to use the developer verson to add buttons and to change the screen layout you would need to install glade .

looking at the source of touchy you can soon pick up the flow
what is it you trying to do ? .

I'll have a look at the code.

What I really am trying to figure out is if I get something like this:

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

Where the usb is the touch screen will I be able to use it.

ELO has a linux driver on their website, it doesn't appear to be "just a mouse" but it's not clear.

so long as you get the usb interface card as part of the monitor , then you will be ok , ELO monitors tend to be the standard for touch screens and are widely used .

all the touch screen part is nothing more than a mouse emulator
but beware sellers that do not supply the usb interface

capacitive interfaces are better than the older resistive screen overlay types
you tend to get a wide masked area around the edges , that is not covered by the touch area .
