Question Max velocity for pendant not the same as set in AXIS?

I've made myself a pendant and got it hooked up a couple of months ago. Then summer hit and I didn't play with the mill at all till now. Now I notice that the slider in AXIS will not control the max velocity when using the pendant to jog in large steps (ie 0.010"). For example I can spin the MPG and it will go to the max velocity configured in the .ini file.

Is this an integration issue on my end or a design feature in AXIS / EMC2?
Any suggestions?

PS the pendant is connected in through a 2nd parallel port if that makes any difference...has a switch to select the axis, one to select the step size and a MPG.
EMC2 is version 2.4.6

Thanks,

Mike

It is a design feature. The jog dial is actually slipped into EMC under Axis, and has no knowledge
of the jog speed slider. In fact, on my mill you can give the dial a big flip, EMC will take off at maximum speed and keep going for a long time to catch up to the POSITION of the jog dial!
This has almost gotten me in big trouble a couple times, and I had to madly crank the dial back the other way to avoid a crash. I do have a button on the pendant that enables the axis being jogged, so that it won't move if the dial is accidentally bumped.

So, the basic idea is if you have the jog dial set for position mode, EMC tries to follow that at whatever velocity you give, up to the maximum limit. There is a velocity mode setting for jog dials instead of position, but I rely on moving the machine in known units, so I have not tried that.

Thanks Jon for that answer - it confirms what I suspected...

I guess I'll just have to dial down the max velocity in my ini file so I don't have any problems - I have a separate issue on Z where if I jog too fast I fault the drive as it can't keep up. Its OK though as the high speeds still scare me and I've done enough damage with them already.

You can set different velocities for each axis. Yeah, I have broken a few things also when jogging around too fast!
