So I got this new mobo processor combo expecting better performance than my 1.2ghz p4. Its a 2.4 ghz p4 celeron with 1gig of ram and using on board graphics. At this point if I open two web pages I can go get coffee before they come up. If I want to open emc with a. Complex program all bets are off. Anyone have any idea's? |

| Yes, get an old computer, too much stuff going on the new this does not need any sophistication of a processor. Use the new one for other stuff, dedicate an oldie to EMC2 Back to the future. Read about this on the Sherline site.

| This is an old computer. This generation processor is at least 9 years old. probably 10 based on the ram it uses. At this point its a ubuntu problem. I haven't even really delved into EMC to do a jitter test or anything. This is the Motherboard/ processor Im using. http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv...714-CEL24-PB-R With some patriot PC-3200 ram. The motherboard is only certified for PC-2100 but it should just down-clock the ram to match the FSB speed so I wouldn't think that's the issue. Last edited by prcdslnc13; 04-05-2011 at 10:52 AM. Reason: added Mobo url |

| Im not sure what the problem with that setup was but I finally just gave up on it. I suspect it had something to do with the onboard graphics and if I come across a cheap PCi video card ill be likely to try again. I ended up frankenstiening a pc together from my junk box with: AMD 3200+ 2.2ghz 2gig ddr333 ati x300 video same IDE HD Everything runs perfect, so for now Im happy. Thanks for the help guys! |
