My Cincy Arrow is acting up again and I'm exploring options. EMC looks like it may be a viable alternative, and given that it's open source and not hardware dependent, should remain so for a while. My Arrow 500 has a 21 tool "umbrella" changer. Does EMC support toolchangers? I assume it supports macros, so in theory one could be written for a toolchanger. What about rigid tapping? TIA Joe |

| A gentleman named Stuart has a 5 axis Cinci running emc2 and at the EMCFest a year or so ago they demo-ed rigid tapping. Look at the last couple of posts on this thread re an ATC. Large Kearney & Trecker HMC conversion. - CNCzone.com-The Largest Machinist Community on the net! Good luck, Alan

| emc2 has integrated ladder (classic ladder). Emc sends out the tool prep command -> that part of the ladder activates and preps the tool -> ladder sends back the command telling emc the tool is prepped. same with the actual tool change. Emc sends out the tool change command -> ladder changes the tool -> ladder tells emc that the tool has been changed. I am using ladder - you could also create a hal component. It is a C like language (or you can do it in C if you want to) - that allows you to control real-world things. I wrote a hal component to do my spindle gear shifthing and locking. Very happy with how flexable and powerful emc is. this is tool chain video YouTube - Kearney and Trecker tool chain logic working in EMC2. Mechanically barcoded toolsthis is an actual tool prep - tool change location and spindle orient - then tool change. YouTube - Kearney and Trecker full tool change with spindle orientspindle shifting - running though the 16 gears YouTube - kearney and Trecker 16 speed spindle gearboxsam |

I'm curious to know what you use to keep track of which tool position is which for your application. |

| Hi, I am the 'Stuart" referred to in an earlier post. Here is a video of a machine with a random tool changer. http://www.mpm1.com:8080/machines/en...toolchange.mp4 This is done with a hal component I wrote. |
