EMC for Lucid Lynx?

The new version of Ubuntu, codenamed Lucid Lynx is due out in April. Does anyone know if a new version of EMC will be produced for it? Will a new install .iso be available? If so when?

Thanks.

Hello,

found the info on another forum, 10.04 EMC˛ is here available. Note, that it isn´t the Live-CD, but the installer-version.

I've been hanging out for this release
SMP enabled by default, means we should get much better performance out of the box on modern dual core machines, and no need to compile stuff. Rather fast boots as well.

I can't wait to get it on our mill.

Do keep an eye out for this bug with ubuntu 10.04 though, it stops some services from starting at boot.

I've done a clean install of 10.04 on a pentium 3/32bit over the last week, and am still having some problems with the gui not loading properly.
I then downloaded the latest EMC2 and have version 2.4.3.1 installed.

Currently I can't get any config file to work, even the sample sherline 3axis throws up an error file window.

1. has anyone got this version working ok ?
2. Can I launch the Axis window without first launching emc2 ?

John

What does it say in the error window that comes up? Without seeing the error, it's a bit difficult to help you troubleshoot. What have you attempted to do so far? Have you run the Stepconfig wizard? Are you using .ini and .hal files from a different installation? Usually, if you scroll down a little bit in the error window (if it's the error window I'm thinking of) it will tell you exactly which file and the line number that the startup is croaking on.

Hi Mark, and thanks for your posting.

I've been posting over the last couple of days to both the linuxcnc forum, and to the Ubuntu forum, and have had quite a lot of help in my endeavours.
Having learnt quite a lot in the process, it wasn't wasted, but seeing that quite a few people have been posting simillar problems with 10.04 not loading the gui correctly(got past that eventually), not being able to get emc2's config to work either was a bit of a set-back, to say the least.

My posting here was only to find out if anyone had got it all working, as an encouragement to myself, but about an hour ago, I gave up, and am in the process of re-installing 8.04 and whatever emc2 version that I had on the cd.
It never gave me any problems other than my own inexperience, so I shall wait to hear when later versions are bug free, before I try again.
Regards
John

John,

I tried the iso from the link posted in a response few responses below this one.

Initially I got an error , EMC2 would not fire up.

I then looked at the comments in cnclinux forum and the solution was straight forward. Had to delete a statement in the old .INI file.

I am sorry I can not recall exactly whihc line it was but it is as simple as that.

Hi Zig.

Thanks for the info, but like I said, I've given up for the time being. i need to get the m/c running again.
The only reason I wanted to upgrade was to get the inkscape path to gcode latest version.
I've now got that on the laptop running my drawing programs, so it will hardly be a problem to transfer them after the conversion via a pendrive.
Just got one idea fixed in my head and couldn't see the alternatives.
Ho hum, off to bed.
John

I got mine up and running over the last week. I'd been running EMC2 v2.4.3 on the old Ubuntu 8.04 system, and basically just copied my configs and such over to the new machine. Been working like a champ.

Were you trying to use old .ini's and hal files on the new setup?

Mark
