The MX4660 can supply more current, and can take higher voltages, which basically means you can run larger motors.
I have ordered a 3 axis 4 motor cnc router. One approach is to use LinuxCNC through a Mesa 7i92 to Geckodrive G540. And then I find the Leadshine MX4660. My question is, Why would I select one over the other? This assumes that the MX4660 is as easy to implement as the Gecko.

Thanks,Gerry,
So the DSP technology (which I assume stands for Digital Signal Processing) doesn't present any advantage?
Jeff
Edit: Maybe I answered my own question. DSP seems to come into play in closed loop control with servo motors that provide feedback. The servo motor provides an analog signal converted to digital. DSP takes the digital signal and applies PID control. I would say that most would by the MX4660 for the voltage flexibility.

There is something that the MX3660/4660 has that may be an advantage and that is the smoothing switch. Leadshine makes no promises regarding its efficacy in your case. It looks like it is used to calm signals in the software stepping case with some borderline latency issues. It looks like a probability selection. You can do a Mesa board with G540 and get smoothness for $370+ or take a chance on MX4660 without Mesa board for $339, and possibly have to add a Mesa down the road.
I don't know the technical details of how the DSP technology works compared to the technology that Gecko uses. Many people have said that the digital leadshine drives are better than Gecko's. I haven't used both to compare them, but I have some Leadshine AM882's that are very good.
If wouldn't expect the Leadshine to be able to compensate for poor quality step signals. If you think you'd need the Mesa board with the , then you'd most likely need it with the MX4660.
