    Default E-Stop Questions for newbie

    Hi,
I am currently putting together my wiring design for my cnc mill conversion that I'll be using LinuxCNC to control it. I have the Mesa 6i25 with the 7i77 breakout board. I would like to go with a safety relay for my e-stop control, but am unsure of how to wire it and how it should interact with Linux CNC. Is the best approach to use a dual input safety relay so one comes from the 7i77 and then the other comes from the physical e-stop on the machine? I'm currently looking at the Pilz 750104. Would this be an appropriate one to use?

    Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

You can use safety relay, most hobby machines do not go to that length and use a simple control relay which has the all the e-stop condition switches in series, and the relay drops out the power to contactor coils and advises the controller that an e-stop has taken place.

    Thanks Al.
I would prefer to implement it the safest way. I'll use the safety relays. Does a safety relay preclude running e-stop switches in series?

No , look at the data sheet for the S.relay, there are many different types that give different features or configurations.
