affordable profile rail?

I need to find some profile rail, 12-15mm or so, and at least 54" in length. I've been scouring ebay, but nothing on there is long enough. McMaster has it, but prices are OUTRAGEOUS. Like $750 apiece just for the rail! D:

I looked at Zapp Automation through an ad here, and the prices seem reasonable, but being UK based, shipping would probably be awful.

Anyone have any suggestions for a US shop with good prices on rail and trucks? Or maybe someone has something lying around they want to get rid of?

Don't forget Automation Overstock (www.automation-overstock.com). This is the "outlet" web store for Automation 4 Less, and there are some great bargains to be had there on the older style Hiwin products (AG and LG)

Profile rail

You can get 15mm steel profile rail from PBC Linear for about $140 (1400mm length). It's part of their PRT technology. Not much information on the web about it, but I would give them a call. $750 from McMaster sounds ludicrous...

Hiwin LG 15 on Automation Overstock

Not sure we are comparing apples to apples, but on Automation Overstock the Hiwin heavy duty LG 15 rail is priced at $100.15 for a 1400mm piece. Four-hole bearing blocks that fit the rail are available in many different configurations...some are the "square" type (LGH) and some are the "flange" type (LGW). Hiwin generally carries a good reputation on CNC Zone and among machine builders.

PBC Linear offers the same stuff kwms1956. I'm not entirely sure on the price match up though.

Hiwin vs PBC

I was just comparing the Hiwin on Automation Overstock to the "about $140" figure you had posted earlier for the PBC. I took a quick look at the PBC products in a PDF online, and as you suggested there isn't a lot of data for them; I could not find any web pricing, but they appear to be nice products. The point I was trying to make is that many folks have built machines using the "legacy" Hiwin AG and LG material. People will have to consider a lot of factors for what type of linear slide materials they purchase, but the point remains that a piece of 1400mm LG15 rail can be obtained brand new from Automation Overstock for about $100 and bearings that work with it are less than $25 each. As you stated earlier, any of the costs that are being offered up here are a far cry from $750 for a single piece of rail...which is where this string of posts began!
