What size ball screw ???

Hi all
I want to convert my (RF30) clone milldrill to cnc ....something that must have been done many times on this site (tho' Im actually finding it quite hard to find a good post about it ?????)
can some one point me in the right direction please and also tell me what size ball screws (diameter and pitch) would suite this conversion ...I hope to use 34 size motors on direct drive to the table and quill

thx

When I converted my RF31, I used 5/8" dia 5 TPI screws.

This was done several years ago and I have had no problem with them.

If you decide on ball screws, read Bob Warfield's exemplary IH mill conversion log at www.cnccookbook.com His IH mill is a similar size (X&Y) to the RF30.

The Z axis is probably the awkward one. Kipper (of this parish) is working on a clamp casting for the bottom of the quill, incorporating coolant holes and illumination. (it's actually for a RF40 type but looks to be usable on a RF30)

Also, you might be interested in my Wishbone stabiliser idea (I'm quite chuffed with how well it works )
