Need help with a rotory spindle..please | | I posted this in another thread in this forum but it apparently went un-noticed. I'm building a rotory spindle with 2 centers that I can chuck a length of pipe in and lay on my plasma cutting table. I want to lock the X axis of the table in position and power a separate stepper motor from the X axis power to turn the spindle to the commands from the cnc computer. This I want for cutting slots in pipe. My big headache is I'm not the best in math and math boy is away at college. The spindle will be belt driven and I need to figure the belt ratio calculation. The stepper motor turns 1.5 revolutions per 1.000" as read out on the computer. The motor pulley I plan to use is .891" diameter 14 tooth 1/5" XL timing belt type. My question is what size pulley do I need on the spindle to rotate it the equivilent of 1.000" of spindle rotation? OR will I need to build a multiple step down using 2 belts. I don't want to change the programming of the CNC to achieve this, I just want to "gear" the spindle to act in the same manner as the X axis normally would using the same programming only rotational rather than linier.
Feed rates are not a concern as these are easily changed on screen of the WinCNC program.
