| Hi all, I need help figuring what kinds of feed rates are reasonable for the machine I've built. I guess this really has to do with rapids. The machine bed is 16"X20". The largest assembly that needs moving is about 15Kg. The whole assembly rides on IKO linear bearings, 10TPI 2 start acme (.5") and delrin lead nuts. What sorts of rapids and accelerations/Ramping might be good for this envelope? I don't expect the rapids of a ballscrew transmission but I don't want to be waiting around all day either for a program to run. The tutorial I've been working out of suggests 24IPM as max cutting (with 200 Newtons of cutting force) and 118IPM for max rapids. I don't have any reference point for what an appropriate rapid acceleration might be (and therefore can't select motors without adding the needed force) Whats the Word? |

| I have been looking around for similar info. Judging by the build threads, 100 - 200 in per min rapids seem pretty common. For my own project, I am kind of using the mechmate and K2 products as a baseline for comparison. |
