need help with linear rail choice.

I am in the design mode of building a 5x10 plasma table which will have rack-n-pion and drive on each side. One quote was from Lintech,SA16-144-CR at $1,266 each and the double linear bearings are $221 each.Ok ,then I get a quote from Techno,Inc and the Isle series double rails model 300 was $348 each and the 300 carriages are $108 each.Would like to here from some of you if you have used any of these .I didnt see any tolerance on the Techno specs.Thanks,Brad.

Get Hiwins from www.automation4less.com .

For a plasma machine, the 15mm HG series will be more than sufficient.

Also try their surplus/overstock site: automation-overstock.com. I just bought 20mm Hiwin rails (3000mm)and trucks from them: Great price and great service.
Since I live pretty close I picked them up and has chance to look around in their warehouse: They have miles and miles of rails.

Good luck!
Bernhard

Another option

Guys,

Linear profile rails are just about the most expensive option out there for linear axis. I've used redi-rail from pacific bearing (www.pacific-bearing.com) and have found that I get just as nice of a system and usually save 25-50% from the profile rail.

However, if you're going to try and hold a tolerance of +/- 0.002" or better on your working piece, then you really need to go with a profile rail. Hiwin makes a nice rail and their quality has gotten a whole lot better over the years. I personally like to use NB's slide guides(http://www.nbcorporation.com/). The price is just a little bit more than Hiwin (not enough to make a difference) and the quality is probably 10x better.

Good luck

Jon

I paid $180.70 per rail and $29 per truck. But you can look up the prices directly at automation-overstock.com.

They do have a huge warehouse full of stuff. Very good prices and very good service!

Cheers,
Bernhard
