2 steppers for x axis good or bad

I was thinking of using 2 nema 34 frame steppers for my x axis. What would be involved in the electronics end? I am ok with the mechanical part. The machine will be a moving gantry style using thk hsr25 bearings on all axis with 2 blocks per rail. I will post pics when I get some time.

Thanks for any input

Kevin

To have two motors sync'd together you'll need to have a drive for each.
Connect the second as if it were the "A" axis.
Some cnc programs such as Mach will have a slave option to do all the work for you(recommended), otherwise you might try to share the parallel port outputs between the two drives.

P.S. you should be in the electronics forum.

I use 2 495 steppers for my X, 1 for the Y and 1 for Z, Xylotex 4 driver board
and Mach 3 and all is well. I just put a post under the DIY section w/pics. My table is 60x60" and generally runs at 60 ipm routing but will go a bit faster.

Check out Joes cnc 4x4 hybrid. He is running 2 drives together without using up a fourth axis and he synced them together with belts as a backup.

My lead screws are 3/4 x 6tpi x about 60" on the X & Y axis. I made my own bronze nuts so I could have more than 75% thread and a lot less slop.
