Apex, you can use 1/2" radial ball bearings for ACME 1/2-10. You also want some sort of thrust bearings to keep the screw from moving laterally. Are you talking about using ball bearings in the grooves of the ACME screw to make a ball screw? The balls would need to ride along both sides of the thread. The balls would have a third contact point on the top surface. Wouldn't this require something to slide as the balls roll?

The balls roll with contact points at opposite sides in a true ball screw. There are no sliding surfaces.

That sounds like an interesting idea. I still think there will be some sliding surfaces, but there might be less friction than a standard ACME bearing.
