This is a compilation of answers for most of the frequent and important questions asked at the Linear motion subforum. 1. Please read this thread before posting your question. 2. If you would like to contribute, please do so. But remember to keep the thread clean and about linear motion, questions and off topic posts will be removed. 3. If you're not sure if your question is answered - or if it's not answered at all - don't hesitate to ask it the usual way! New forum questions are always welcome. | Here is a very comprehensive article about STEPPER MOTORS that is both helpful and detailed: http://www.cs.uiowa.edu/~jones/step/ Scott (Moderator - please feel free to relocate if this is not the appropriate location!)

| Hi good people. I have tried to ask in other threads, but no one responds. May be it's me, asking a wrong questions in the wrong places. It' just the website's configuration bit of confusing to me... The question was: How do I make my machine move along x-axis (the longest one)? I figured, that using a lead screw would be little dangerous and speed restricting because it's almost 10 feet long. And besides, the gantry is not a loop shape, so I have to use 2 screws? I was thinking of using a linear gears, but they are so expensive!!! And in my case 2 sets is required! Is there any other way to get in moving? Please, see pictures of my project in gallery. Anyone can help me? Please? Thank you in advance!!! |

| Hi guys ! Any info on ACME screws ? I personnaly have some questions: 1) What to choose between: 24mm dia. x 5mm lead. VS 16mm dia. x4mm lead ??? 2) How does the required motor torque increase with respect of screw diameter ? (is it correct to use "with respect of" in this case ? would it be better to use "relatively to" ?) Thanks ! cnc2. |
