rapid traverse how to calcute moter size etc

I looking for some understanding..., how to design a cnc system
for max.. rapid traverse and travel with a given given moter ie 264 (oz-in)specs with screwballs for better travers, would gearing it help?

also what factor help or inmprove
    Repeatability: +/- .001"- 0.005

    ie
    Cutting Speed: 450 ipm
    Rapid Traverse: 600 ipm

what is a fast achievable Cutting Speed: ? ipm for ascrew ball and linear bearings? and a Rapid Traverse: ? ipm a for home made unit, i understand there are many factors but would like hear what people have achieved using what?
