I bought a professionally built but unfinished router. Its a big one, 50x51x12 envelope. I need to buy the rails, cars and ballscrews, motors, etc. It is designed to use HSR 25 rails and cars. I can layout and drill different holes, but the overall height of the rail and car needs to be 1.417" or 36mm. I would like to keep the cost to a minimum finishing this machine. Is one brand cheaper than another? Is there any hope of finding them used? Is there an alternative to what I am thinking? I have a friend who was going to give me all the rails and cars. After buying the machine, I find out all his are hsr 22. Opps. Thanks for your help. |

| Genuine THKs are bloody expensive. Consider Hiwin HG series, which are dimensionally interchangeable. The HG25 rail with 60mm bolt hole spacing should align perfectly, assuming the frame was drilled and tapped properly. For the blocks, you'll need to check the bolt hole pattern to see if you need HGH regular blocks or HGW flanged blocks. www.automation4less.com has good prices on the Hiwins. |

| Why not use the 22's and put a 3mm spacer on the blocks?

That was my first thought. Glad you sugessted it. There is also the rail holes that are drilled and tapped, 60 mm on center. Where would I get the 3mm spacer material? |

| Duh. I thought you meant put a 3mm spacer under the rail. Sure under the car. That makes a lot of sense. I checked things out a little better today. There is a 6mm height difference (rail and car together) between what I got for free and the Hsr 25. I can definatly use them. That saved me some money. Thanks for your sugestions. |
