How to test leadscrew of ebay?

    Hi people!

I just recieved a small leadscrew that i'm going to use for my Z-ax. it's about 30cm long and has a diametre of 16mm. it came with 2 ballnuts for just $30!

anyway, is there a way tot test if it's working properly? the ballscrews seems to have alot of resistance, i cleaned the leadscrew becouse small dust was sticking to the grease (was packed in oilpaper).
it still has resistance, and at some points more then others. i think theres some dust IN the ballnut. any way to get it out?

i don't have other leadscrews to compare with, so please help me.

    greets,

    Klaas

Well....since you mention dual ballnuts....I suspect that are pretty heavily preloaded which could be the source of the resistance.....dust won't hurt....but sand or dirt will.....

yes, they are preloaded, i do not have a balltube to disasamble the nuts

the seller told me the parts have been stored for about 5 years orso :/ i think some of the oil is dryed out. Is it safe to just put the whole spindel in a can filled with oil overnight? maybe some loosens up a bit.

    greets,

    mi

Yes, it would loosen it up....but then you'd have to relube it....can you see a way to lessen the preload....usually it's just too ballnuts with a spring between them and some sort of frame or clamp holding them together.
