| Hi guys, I am a first time building mini CNC using hobbyCNC kits 200oz in and X2 mini mill. I got stuck in deciding weather to connect steppers directly to the leadscrew or shall I use the belt drive to increase the torque of the steppers. I have done NEITHER one of those!. Anyway, upon realizing 2 things: 1. cost and 2. time, I think I might go with the 1st choice that skipping the belt and go directly with the leadscrew connect to the steppers like many pictures I have seen in the forum. I disassemble my X2 leadscrew and measure 3/8" dia and stepers 1/2". So any recommendation where can I find the couplers that would fit directly into them? You advice is appreciate it. |

| Use Lovejoy connectors. Get the same type of connector, such as L-050, but one with a 3/8th bore and the other with a 1/2 bore. A spider sits snuggly in between the 2 halves. I use this on 3/8th leadscrew and 1/4" stepper shaft. Works good. Follow the link to a surplus outlet and compare prices. http://www.surpluscenter.com/sort.as...s&keyword=PSF3 RipperSoftware |

| Mcmaster Carr has them (last time I looked) cheaper than the surplus center, and they deliver a lot faster.

| I need some cusstom-made jobbies, I think. I bet Tim at Dumpster can help me. I think tonight I;m going to go through and analyze what exactly I need to do to get my machine to where I'm happy with it, and then compare that bottom line to buying a new one. If I can find a decent 24X18 or better machine for under $5K I migth do it anyway. |
