I don't know if someone has a well kept secret to a source for good used or reasonable new linear slides/bearings but I have been busting my hump trying to find some. I was fortunate to have a friend donate a pair of thk rails and blocks for my x axis but still need some for my Y axis I am currently bidding on a set I may win I may not but unless you want to go with gas pipe the bearings seem to be the biggest stumbling block. Ebay turns us into a bunch of vultures and that really bothers me. I emailed Bishop Wisecarver for a dealer near me they didn't respond. I am sure if one of you guys had the capability to manufacture reasonably priced bearings you would be rich! sorry for ranting on just a bit frustrated thanks for listening. Rob (truman) |

| As for Ebay, it's mandatory that you use a sniper. I use Auction Sniper, www.auctionsniper.com

| As far as new bearings this is the best place I have found. http://www.automation4less.com/store/linearind.asp Really good service too! I'm still saving my pennies for my X axis rails. In order to see the prices you need to Login.. It is quick and easy to get a password from them. Jeff T. |

| I agree that sniping really helps to get good deals on Ebay. If you have a solid internet connection, and would rather run a free sniper program on your PC, I can highly recommend the open source program Jbidwatcher at http://www.jbidwatcher.com . |

| well I have bought my y axis bearings they are thk sr20w 62.5" a little longer than the 48"-60" I was looking for but that is why I didn't design the machine yet so I could design it around what was available. Now I am torn between alluminum or steel I really like oneyakers but I don't know if hand scraping the bearing ways would be in my skill level but time I have alot of money I don't and alluminum is not cheap. If I went alluminum I would like to model it after the k2 somewhat questions to many questions |

Gerry I would nearly bet that those are the real deal. I don't know of but one manufacturer of these type rails and bearings and that is B/W. I might add I have used them for years on my cnc machine and I can promise you they will run dirty, real dirty! I have had this machine since 1991 and am still using the same bearings that came on the machine. Mike

| Mike, Benny had a source from China, which I assumed is what these are. You might be right, though.

Truman, FYI - You may want to look into HIWIN's products at www.hiwin.com. Not long ago they were clearing out their C-class components at "liquidation" prices. They had a page on their website pertaining to the inventory, but it appears to be gone. I purchased the components (20mm) 10'x5'x2' for my forthcoming 8'x4'x1' router from them about this time last year. As I recall, the "closeout prices" were about 30% off the HIWIN list price. Not bad considering that from what I've seen, Hiwin's list prices were/are about 30-50% less expensive than comparable THK stuff. I've not used them yet, but from the looks of the hardware, and what I've read, it is high quality stuff. Bob Campbell's design uses HIWIN. Good Luck, Dan |
